This is the stuff good adventure tales are made of... It's been this way since the beginning of time. The human fascination with fantastic and heroic tales has virtually remained the same through the ages of man. Each tale or story contains some form of goal, whether real or aspirational, where the journey and quest is as important as the final outcome itself.
Packed with symbols and values of the time and people, these stories aim at conveying a message, whether religious, social, or moral in nature... The careful scholar will be able to observe many common cross-cultural themes and norms expressed in the tales and lore of virtually every people and culture.
The recipe for a good tale has been passed from one generation to the next, with little change. A hero, often driven by a source of inspiration or vision, sets out on a long and perilous journey, during which he/she will encounter many obstacles and make wonderous discoveries. Regardless of the quest, new friends will be made, allies will emerge and so will foes. Lessons will be learnt, some more painful than others. Yet, in the midst of all the bypaths, distractions and tests on the way, the hero(ine) will never loose sight of the end goal.
