Note: explanation taken from ENYA: "The Celts" (track 13 bard dance)
Traditional Celtic music is, and has been over the past years, growing steadily in popularity. The watchful eye can attest to this. Music artists performing traditional (folk) and contemporary Celtic music, or a blend of the two, are becoming an increasingly obtainable commodity. Many of these artists perform their works (or remakes of original folk pieces) in English as well as in their native Gaelic tongue.
Surprisingly enough, these Celtic artists, as I shall refer to them for now, enjoy a great degree of popularity outside of the 'traditional' Celtic sphere of western Europe. These artists, are heard and appreciated throughout the world and are profiting from a new sense of Celtic revival and global resurgence of the interest in one's Celtic roots.
RUNRIG -- these guys are absolutely phenomenal and perhaps my very favorite of contemporary Celtic musicians. They will entice, capture, enrich and enlighten your heart and soul in a sweep! See Some Great Photos here
ENYA -- a true Celtic rose; most certainly an extremely remarkable woman who manages to touch all listeners with her angelic ballads and hymns. (my very most favorite female Celtic artist)
CLANNAD -- have to mention Enya's kin...
These siblings definitely have left their mark in the Celtic music domain.
CAPERCAILLIE -- another outstanding group that cannot go unmentioned. Karen Matheson's unique and penetrating voice.
Perhaps this Scot says it best:"[she] has a voice surely touched by God." -- Sean Connery
SEVEN NATIONS -- these four guys are the prime of American-Celtic rock bands. What they do, they do extremely well. These guys rule anywhere they go! (Photo by Susan Morgan Jones ©1999)
WOLFESTONE -- these Glaswegians actually blend rock and traditional rather nicely. The have good sound and a neat style about them.
THE INDULGERS -- these guys are a Colorado-based
American Celtic group.
CLANDESTINE -- a Texas-based American Celtic group which has been successful through the Lone Star State as well as having been recognized abroad, such as the Festival Interceltique de Lorient (Brittany, France).
SIX MILE BRIDGE -- an American-Celtic band based out of Texas
THE CORRS -- these four siblings present a modern blend of
pop-enhanced folk music
LOREENA McKENNIT -- Canada's answer to Enya...
Very good, very distinct. A must in the collection of true Celtic music lovers.

Pending the outcome of ongoing litigation concerning the use and distribution of MP3 files, I have temporarily removed them from the download area.
